This is one of the most frequently asked questions after a wedding. The engagement ring usually stays with us for years, and the wedding band joins it. But should both be on the same finger? Or should they be worn separately?
Polish tradition
In Poland, the wedding band is worn on the right hand, on the ring finger . The engagement ring often remains there, next to the wedding band. This is a symbolic, practical, and most common solution.
Western customs
In many Western countries—for example, the United States and Italy—both symbols of love are worn on the left hand . There, the wedding ring is worn first (closer to the hand), with the engagement ring placed right next to it.
Wear together or separately?
-
Together: a beautiful set, harmonious appearance, comfort (no need to remember two different places).
-
Separately: some people move their engagement ring to a different hand – for example, to show it off better or to make the ring more comfortable for everyday wear.
There is no single rule
The most important thing is that both pieces are worn in a way that suits you best . Whether side by side on the same finger or separately, symbolism and personal comfort are key.
