The Boucheron jewelry house has unveiled its latest haute joaillerie collection, titled "Impermanence," consisting of 28 extraordinary pieces inspired by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi and the art of ikebana. The collection reflects a contemplation of transience, the fragility of nature, and the beauty of imperfect forms—a conscious departure from classical notions of perfection in jewelry.
As Boucheron Creative Director Claire Choisne emphasizes, the "Impermanence" collection breaks with the expectation of perfection and celebrates the unexpected and imperfect—broken lines, mismatched forms, and asymmetry. The collection features motifs such as poppies, cracks, raindrops, and forms inspired by the transience of fabric.
In particular, Composition n°1 features a poppy embedded in Vantablack—a material based on ultrathin carbon nanotubes that absorbs 99.965% of light. This makes diamonds and other elements appear to emerge from absolute blackness, creating extraordinary visual depth. Interestingly, Vantablack is not widely available—its use requires a special license and application technology, making its use in jewelry even more exclusive. After all, it's also a form of carbon—just like diamonds—so this duo fits perfectly into the jewelry world.
The collection also includes a brooch shaped like a crumpled piece of paper ( Crush ), a ring imitating cracked porcelain ( Crack ), and a sophisticated necklace with a rain motif ( Rain ). Boucheron once again experiments with form, volume, and color – featuring exceptional use of materials such as cyclamen tourmaline, pearls, diamonds, and titanium.
