Gemfields announced a $32 million sale in its latest auction of high-quality emeralds. All 38 lots sold found buyers, with the average price reaching nearly $161 per carat. This result confirms the growing market interest in high-quality gemstones, despite earlier signals of a slowdown in the industry.
Of particular note is the exceptional specimen known as "Imboo," an 11,685-carat emerald mined at Zambia's Kagem mine. This extraordinary stone became one of the auction's landmarks, highlighting the Zambian region's potential as a key supplier of emeralds to global markets.
Gemfields owns 75% of the Kagem mine, in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation of Zambia. For years, the company has played a significant role in the development of the colored gemstone market, focusing on transparent sales, responsible mining, and promoting emeralds and rubies as alternatives to diamonds.
